A Short History of Nutrino

This is the short version of a long story. A story that has shaped the lives of many people (shout out to our users!) and hopefully will shape the lives of many more (possibly you?) We’ve grown a lot over the past few years, and we’ve come a long way – in no way is our journey over. The story may be unique and personal, but its moral is universally relevant. How do you maintain good health and well being in our rapidly evolving world.

Nutrino starts with two of our founders –  Yaron and Jonathan, the mathematician and the engineer that created Nutrino. Like we’ve said before, nutrition can be a baffling topic. Every day, we are exposed to literally dozens of different dietary recommendations. And the more you learn, the longer the list of diets seems to get. Worse still, many of these recommendations completely contradict each other.

So how did two these two with almost no background in nutrition end up designing a sophisticated app that stands to revolutionize the way we eat?

To answer that question, we have to go back to 2000, when Yaron adopted a vegan diet. This change prompted him to learn more about the field of nutrition. As a researcher, he took a methodical approach, reading hundreds and hundreds of books and papers on the topic of nutrition. Today, more than 10 years down the road, Yaron maintains a super-healthy lifestyle, growing much of his food at home and happily sharing his experience and knowledge with anyone willing to listen.

Jonathan’s involvement with Nutrino took a very different path. Jonathan is an enthusiastic foodie who loves to cook and appreciates a good meal. He has also struggled with high cholesterol and hypertension from childhood. Both conditions have a genetic component that Jonathan inherited from both sides of his family. Today, raising two boys, Jonathan faces the challenge of cooking meals that are both delicious and compatible with his family’s genetic risk for high blood pressure and hypertension. This is no simple task when you consider the food kids usually eat.

Yaron and Jonathan first met in the military where they designed a system to optimize the assignment of personnel. For their work they received a prestigious prize. Their project was so successful that they realized that the optimization tools they had developed could just as easily be applied to other aspects of our lives. After all, in today’s world, optimization is the name of the game.

This is the path that led to the establishment and creation of Nutrino, with the goal to make well-being and health accessible at the click of a button. No more counting calories or worrying about whether you’re getting all the vitamins and minerals your body needs. No need to keep track of all the complicated nutrition studies.

Nutrino takes your personal needs, goals, habits and preferences and gives you straightforward recommendations on what you should eat! Whenever you want it and wherever you are, whether you’re cooking at home or eating out.
